Developing stronger negotiation skills

A major energy company wanted to develop the negotiation skills of its sales teams across Australia as part of a new go-to-market strategy.

Corporate Actors Australia delivered authentic simulation exercises that allowed participants to practise skills in trading and bargaining with customers and stakeholders.

Participants and management alike found that their newly enhanced skills gave them an edge in a highly competitive industry.

Creating cultural change

A large public health agency was embarking on an organization-wide culture change initiative, and hosted a forum event to share ideas and knowledge amongst its diverse workforce.

Corporate Actors Australia wrote and performed forum theatre scenarios based on staff feedback, addressing issues such as bullying, burnout and staffing levels.

The performances shone a light on these difficult issues in a non-threatening, relatable way, and stimulated lively, purposeful discussion.

Vocal & physical impact coaching

A successful senior executive recognised that their communication style could be improved. While achieving considerable corporate success, they were looking to build confidence in their voice, delivery and ability to ‘land’ their message.

Corporate Actors Australia designed workshops, based on the individual’s needs, and created intensive coaching sessions. These were carried out face-to-face and online. Working closely with the client, CAA developed a program that instilled real confidence and a deeper understanding of the vocal and physical instruments, ultimately creating a sense of control and poise.

Workplace wellbeing and customer care

State Transit NSW needed to improve the customer experience on Sydney buses.

Corporate Actors Australia collaborated with State Transit to create a development day combining thought-provoking presentations and forum theatre to explore communication skills, positive psychology, social intelligence and self-care. Over seven months, the Corporate Actors Australia team delivered 141 development days to 3500 bus drivers.

Participants consistently reported that the program helped them build their individual strengths and interpersonal skills.

Communicating with presence

An Australian-based international bank was looking to enhance the personal impact of high-potential individuals.

Corporate Actors Australia collaborated with a respected organizational psychologist to deliver practical workshops using the “actor’s toolkit” to explore aspects of communication like voice, body language and posture.

Participants were equipped with simple but effective techniques they could use to enhance their presence in meetings and other workplace interactions.

Difficult conversations

A major university wanted to better equip its managers and senior academic staff to conduct challenging performance-management conversations.

Corporate Actors Australia presented strategies for giving clear, sensitive feedback, asking high-gain questions and handling emotional escalation. In one-on-one roleplay sessions, participants conducted simulated high-stakes conversations with actors.

Participants reported that the program gave them significant insights into their own behaviours and how they could communicate more clearly and effectively.

Active listening and engagement

A state-wide mental health support and advocacy program wanted to help its staff develop their listening skills and engage meaningfully and appropriately with people with mental illness.

After extensive consultation, Corporate Actors Australia developed a forum theatre package that explored the challenges of this sensitive work, providing a catalyst for lively discussion and knowledge-sharing.

Program managers and participants gave feedback that the authentic, experiential nature of these workshops created a powerful learning opportunity.

Nurturing cultural intelligence

An Australian law firm, increasingly working in international markets, wanted a learning and development module on cultural intelligence and inclusion.

Corporate Actors Australia teamed with intercultural consultants Cultural Synergies to create forum theatre scenarios that focused on working effectively in culturally diverse settings and recognizing bias, conscious and unconscious.

The scenarios sparked spirited discussions that allowed the participants to reflect on behaviours, gain insights and develop their cultural competence.
